The Division of Cardiac Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is pleased to offer a full-timeÂ Physician AssistantÂ position in Advanced Cardiac Surgery.Â
The Physician Assistant (P.A.), under the direction of a Cardiac Surgeon will assist in the care of patients in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. The P.A. willÂ be anÂ integralÂ part ofÂ the delivery of high-quality patient care and services to patientsÂ that have undergone cardiovascular and/or cardiac surgery. They work directly with the Chairman of the Department of Surgery and the Cardiac team to provide valuable care to patients in the clinic and the OR. The Physician Assistant will conduct discharge education, coordinate outpatient follow-upÂ withÂ both surgery clinic and consultative clinics. This role will also require the PA to be flexible on an as neededÂ basis toÂ order medications, diagnostic studies, ordering procedural interventions, therapeutic procedures under the supervision of the surgery faculty or obtain results in a timely fashion.Â The Physician Assistant will collaborateÂ with the Surgery Chair and the Chief of Cardiac Surgery to ensure patient outcomes are achieved. InÂ addition,Â theyÂ will monitor compliance of protocols and work with the Quality ImprovementÂ department regarding the care of the cardiac patients.Â
We are seeking an engaged and collaborative team member who will provide education and who is either Board Certified/Board Eligible and has been for over 25 years. This position will also provide education to the hospital nursing staff regarding the treatment modalities,Â maintainÂ direct communication with all consulting services, team members, and supervising physicians. The P.A. will act as a liaison between patients and multiple medical/surgical disciplines to communicate patient care and maintain ongoing dialog with the surgery team and referring physicians plan of care.Â
