Position Purpose: The Communications Director, Advancement, supports learning by strengthening the university's reputation, financial support, and sustainability. Executes print, digital, and social media strategies that raise the visibility of the university, increase engagement with the university's alumni, donor, and community audiences, and expand the university's base of philanthropic support.
Represents Aurora University in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we serve. Interacts effectively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, students and other customers of our service, learns and uses operating practices of the department and Aurora University.

Essential Job Functions:
Develops and manages an integrated communications approach for Advancement using print collateral, email marketing, and relevant social media tools.
Serves as the communications project manager for Advancement initiatives including the arts, alumni annual funds, athletics fundraising, and other priority fundraising initiatives.
Through careful planning and collaboration with Advancement colleagues connects communications strategies with audience engagement and fundraising goals.
Creates and executes print, digital, and social media strategies that meet the standards set by the university's president.
Creates content for community engagement, as well as donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
Essential Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field is required. Master's degree in marketing or communications preferred.
A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required.
Experience with alumni or development functions in a higher education institution is preferred.

Founded in 1893 in Mendota, Illinois, as Mendota Seminary, the institution soon changed its name to Mendota College. By 1911, it had outgrown its facilities and the following year changed its name to Aurora College and moved to Aurora, where its students could take advantage of a thriving business environment and easy access to Chicago. In 1985, Aurora College changed its name to Aurora University to better reflect the magnitude of its academic offerings. Seven years later, Aurora University and George Williams College traditions blended when the two institutions entered into an affiliation agreement that paved the way for a merger eight years later. In 2010, the Woodstock Center opened to meet the needs of students in McHenry County and surrounding communities.
