The Molecular Marker Laboratory of the Soybean Breeding and Genetics Program in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Tennessee is seeking qualified applicants for a Research Associate position. The successful applicant will serve as technician and manager for the lab.
Typical work duties of the selected candidate may include: * Supporting the PI and graduate students in the design, management, and execution of laboratory research projects. * Organizing daily technical operations including coordination and allocation of equipment and space. * Analyzing samples using laboratory equipment including our Roche LightCycler 480, Perten DA7250 near infra-red reflectance instrument, and HP 6890 gas chromatograph. * Maintaining laboratory equipment and greenhouse systems in good working condition. * Packaging seed for planting. * Managing the summer field crossing block. * Assisting with fall field note-taking and harvest operations. * Analyzing and reporting results. * Supervising and training graduate and undergraduate students. * Serving as laboratory Safety Officer.
The candidate will be involved in a wide range of research activities in the laboratory and field with the goal of improving soybean yield and quality. This position may require travel to outlying locations (10-15%).
