Under the supervision of the Program Manager/Site Coordinator, the Research Aide Lab Assistant will provide support to the laboratory manager and other research staff; will assist the lab manager in study specimen collection, testing, processing, storage and shipping of specimens to local and central lab; will help ensure that specimens are properly collected and documented and safeguard their integrity; will provide support to research staff in picking up and returning study products to and from the research pharmacy; will help navigate participants for special procedures at designated testing centers; will also provide support in recruitment and retention activities for an HIV Prevention Trials Network study.
Conducts all research activities in accordance with study protocol, standard operating procedures and other appropriate institutional regulations, procedures and policies, including procedures to safeguard confidentiality of study participants
Assist the lab manager in study specimen collection, testing, processing, storage and shipping of specimens to local and central lab and lab after care.
Help ensure that specimens are properly collected and documented and safeguard their integrity.
Assist in quality control and assurance activities of lab specimens and procedures.
Help organize and file lab study materials and documents.
Assist lab manager in monitoring lab equipment (freezers, refrigerators, CO2 tanks, centrifuge, eye wash etc.), running test controls kits, and monthly inventory of lab supplies.
Provide support to research staff in picking up and returning study products to and from the research pharmacy.
Help navigate participants for special procedures at designated testing centers.
Provide support in recruitment and retention activities for an HIV Prevention Trials Network study.
Establishes and maintains positive relationships with potential and enrolled participants, visitors, and other employees.
Participate in weekly staff meetings and attends study related trainings as requested by the Program Manager/Site Coordinator
Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager/Site Coordinator
A minimum of a high school diploma
+ 1 year of research related lab experience
Rapid HIV Testing experience
Experience working with diverse, medically underserved, high risk populations and communities
Demonstrated experience working in teams and independently, and exercising initiative and discretion when handling confidential information
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Demonstrated and successful experience managing multiple priorities under pressure
Effectively maintains professional boundaries in research settings
