The Department of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for an outstanding tenure-track/tenured faculty member at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank (rank and tenure status commensurate with qualifications) in the broad area of water sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and microbiological pathogens.
The successful candidate will be expected to enrich the department's research enterprise by obtaining and maintaining extramurally funded research in the broad area of WASH inclusive of microbial pathogens and environmental microbiology. Specific research areas may include the following: water quality, sanitation, and health; human populations and environmental biomonitoring; environmental microbiology; interactions among environmental chemicals, elements, and microbial pathogens; human and environmental microbiomics; One Health approaches; disasters; climate change; and microbial risks. In addition to developing an independent research program, the candidate will be expected to teach graduate level courses in their area of expertise, advise and mentor graduate students, and engage in appropriate service activities.

A doctoral degree in environmental health sciences, environmental microbiology, environmental engineering, or a related scientific discipline is required.
Experience obtaining research grants and contracts and collaborating on multidisciplinary projects is preferred but not necessary.
