The Department of Campus Safety at Keene State College is seeking an energetic, people-oriented professional to fill the position of Campus Safety Sergeant for the evening/overnight shift. Sergeants assist in creating and sustaining a safe learning, working, and living environment for our campus community and serve as the officer in charge of the Department in the absence of a member of the administrative team. The Sergeant is responsible for exercising supervisory authority involving the significant exercise of discretion Responsibilities include: coordinating resources, directing officers, assigning shift responsibilities, preparing written evaluations of subordinates, conducting shift briefings and training, conducting inspections, ensuring compliance with Department policies and procedures, and communicating important information to the Department administrative team or other College officials. Sergeants provide field training and assessment, field training officer supervision, employee counseling, and are authorized to initiate and investigate complaints against officers when necessary.
â¢ Must be 21 at time of employment â¢ High school graduation or equivalent â¢ Three years of similar public safety work experience or other related experience â¢ Interpersonal skills, including the ability to project self-assurance, and certainty, project a positive first impression, react and cope with stressful situations and evaluate a situation with common sense â¢ Proven oral and written communication skills â¢ Demonstrate leadership, supervisory, and organizational ability â¢ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff and the general public â¢ Must have a working knowledge of campus environment, relevant laws, safety, and fire awareness. â¢ Must be computer proficient with the ability to learn various computer applications â¢ Have a valid driverâs license and safe driving history â¢ Successfully pass a background check, including criminal and driving history â¢ Obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certification â¢ Must be willing to attend periodic training and meetings and work overtime â¢ Post-offer, pre-employment physical required.
