Research Support - Laboratory/Non-Laboratory, Staff/Administrative
Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow for the Neuroscience and Cell Biology department at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Applications are invited for motivated scholars to join the laboratory of Pingyue Pan at the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology in Rutgers University – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. The primary research interest in the lab is to understand dopaminergic cell function and its dysregulation in disease conditions. We are interested in exploring cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying both Parkinson's disease and substance use disorder. Currently, we are investigating the Synj1 gene, which is linked to multiple dopamine related illness, including Parkinsonism, Autism and Schizophrenia. Synj1 is primarily expressed in the nerve terminals of neurons and modulate membrane phosphoinositide homeostasis. How Synj1 mutation or deficiency influences the dopaminergic signaling and neurodegeneration is largely unknown. We use primary dopamine neuron cultures from transgenic mouse models combined with quantitative imaging, biochemical and behavioral analyses to understand these mechanisms. The position is funded by the NIH R01 grant.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Designs and leads the project as directed by the supervisor.
Performs live cell imaging, transfection, molecular cloning, data analysis and presentation.
Engages in scientific communication, training of junior personnel and manuscript preparation.
Assists in maintenance of transgenic mice lines in the vivarium. This involves handling mice for breeding, tail snipping, ear marking and PCR-genotyping.
May be involved in weekly mouse brain dissection and primary neuron culture.
Minimum Education and Experience:
PhD degree in neurobiology or similar scientific specialty
A minimum of one (1) year experience in either live cell imaging, synaptic physiology or animal behavior, pathology.
Candidates in all-but-degree (ABD) status will also be considered.
Detail-oriented and quantitative mind.
