At Stony Brook Medicine, The Director of Quality Improvement will function as a member of Stony Brook University Hospital's Quality Management Program. The Program has as its goal the promotion of positive patient outcomes through integration of performance improvement activities and measurement tools. Qualified candidates should demonstrate excellent intrapersonal skills and time management skills. They should have attention to detail and be able to work with all levels of the organization and they must be able to keep Quality Management data confidential.
The Director of Quality Improvement will work closely with the Associate Director of Quality and other members of the Executive Staff to ensure effective communication between clinical service groups and executive administration.
Duties of a Director of Quality Improvement may include the following but are not limited to:
Responsible for the management/operation of the Quality Improvement Department.
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate departmental staff.
Oversee education and training of staff on all levels regarding principles of quality/performance improvement and achieving organizational excellence.
Act as facilitator for performance improvement teams, FMEAs, RCAs.
Serve as Quality Improvement representative in various quality and regulatory forums.
Coordinate Joint Commission/DOH/CMS and other agency activities to ensure compliance relating to performance improvement standards and requirements.
Collaborate with Information Technology, Finance and other departments to develop meaningful reports and analyzes outcomes for performance improvement.
Integrate SBSH and SBELI into performance improvement activities as appropriate
Create templates to report data for key group/individuals to ultimately be utilized for performance improvement efforts and provide appropriate reports to key leadership groups for updates on performance improvement activities.
Coordinate and distribute core measure reports, with Quality Measurements & Analytics team, to appropriate individuals/groups to share relevant information for performance improvement and continuous feedback.
Provide assistance to the Associate Director of Quality relating to ad-hoc quality management/performance improvement activities/assignments.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, health-related field or biological science.
Five years progressive experience in quality management field including facilitation/coordination of key performance initiatives.
Three years of supervisory experience
Excellent interpersonal and writing skills.
Knowledge of regulatory and accreditation activities associated with performance improvement, including root cause analyses and failure mode and effect analyses.
Master's degree in related field.
Training experience and demonstration of good presentation skills are preferred.
CPHQ, ASQ and/or Certification in Lean and/or Six Sigma.
