The Vanderbilt Athletics Department is seeking a qualified applicant to serve as the Head Spirit Coach. This position will coordinate all aspects of Vanderbilt Athletics' Spirit program including cheer, dance, mascot, and mic men/women. This position will report directly to the Associate AD of Marketing.
Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship and victory. Vanderbilt is a charter member of the Southeastern Conference and is the conference's only private school. The university fields 16 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 10 women's teams, a total of 351 student athletes), 14 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.
Duties and Responsibilities
The head coach will coordinate all aspects of Vanderbilt Athletics' Spirit program including cheer, dance, mascot, and mic men/women. These oversight responsibilities include but are not limited to, leading and organizing all practices and workouts, student-athlete development and academic progress of spirit squad members, organization of home and away football games, and budget management.
This person will be responsible for the selection process for all areas of spirit, directing and managing gameday duties/functions (both home and away), as well as community and campus appearances. As the Head Coach, this role will be expected to manage all components of the teams and units.
This position will be expected to recruit and engage with potential spirit squad members, promote school spirit and involvement, while also publicly adhering to the brand of Vanderbilt University Athletic in all facets, including social media.
This position will require coordination and collaboration with the marketing department, hospitality and fan engagement team, Spirit of Gold, as well as all other units of the department. This person will be asked to lead all spirit initiatives, develop relationships with fans, and demonstrate strong skills in collaboration, communication, and organization.
The Head Coach will oversee all spirit squad members and part time coaches.
Bachelor's degree is necessary.
Prior experience with spirit squads at a collegiate level is preferred.
Prior experience in leading a team is preferred.
