Location: Hyde Park Campus
Oversees the Weiss Fundâ™s research funding and expansion; manages a team to conduct regular calls for proposals, screen proposals, support the Weiss Committees decision-making, and communicate final decisions by the Weiss Committee.
Supports the process of expanding the Weiss Fund to support researchers based at a variety of institutions and in other countries, including in developing countries.
Develops and manages other programs, including a pre-doctoral fellowship program. The Weiss Fund aims to identify promising students from low- and lower-middle income countries and support them to complete a pre-doctoral fellowship with top researchers in development economics.
Amplifies the impact of Weiss-funded projects by identifying promising projects and their pathways to scale. This will include identifying partners for larger-scale research, implementation, policy change, and funding.
Organizes conferences for research supported by the Weiss Fund.
Collaborates on dissemination and policy outreach for the Development Innovation Lab, take advantage of synergies in dissemination and policy outreach.
Works with the Weiss Committee Chair, Michael Kremer, and program staff to manage communications with and reporting to Weiss Fund donors.
Manages research professionals and support staff involved with planning, monitoring, and compliance aspects of research projects. Advises other researchers on long-range plans for research projects.
Develops goals and operating procedures, practices, and guidelines for research activity based on department strategy.
Reviews research of others, and may conduct own research, in area of expertise. Edits and approves articles, reports and manuscripts. Presents research findings at meetings and/or conference. Manages the research of processes in clinical or non-clinical settings. Program and use computers to store, process, and analyze data.
Performs other related work as needed.
PhD in economics, public policy or international development, including significant training in economics.
Minimum of 5 years working in an economic research or policy implementation environment.
Background working directly with academic researchers, developing country governments and bilateral/multilateral funders.
Working knowledge scaling up evidence-based development innovations.
Proficient in conducting randomized control trials.
Collaborate with high-level stakeholders in research, including academics and university leaders.
Interact with high-level stakeholders in public policy, including developing country governments, NGOs, foundations, multilateral aid agencies.
Appraise the quality of research development economics and give useful feedback on research design and implementation (including budgets for field experiments).
Understand complex development economics research and communicate academic research effectively to a variety of audiences.
Work with researchers to maximize real-world impact of research.
Creative problem solving and an ability to think outside-the-box.
Excellent writing skills.Â
Communicate technical information for stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds.
Accomplished in managing people.
Work independently with a high degree of initiative as well as ability to work well in a diverse team.
