Allegheny College, a small selective national liberal arts college, invites applications for the new position of First Year Class Dean and Co-Director of Allegheny Bound Student Orientation. The position is a full-time exempt position reporting to the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students. The Class Dean will provide programmatic and individualized holistic support and advising for all first-year students; serve as co-director of the Allegheny Bound Student Orientation Program; serve on the Leadership Team for the First-Year/Sophomore (FS) Program; and advise the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students on matters relating to first-year student success. This is a brand new position and an opportunity to help build an exciting program
Essential Functions
Work directly with first-year students as a mentor and secondary adviser (in addition to their faculty adviser).
In collaboration with faculty advisers, advise and mentor first-year students to develop discrete curricular, co-curricular, and personal goals as advocates for their well-being and success.
Participate in responding to Academic Alerts for first-year students under the direction of the Associate Dean for Student Success.
Serve on the Students of Concern Group. Participate in the Student Conduct Code system to help address behavioral issues and/or violations with students consistent with the Student Handbook.
Serve as co-director of the Allegheny Bound Student Orientation Program.
Jointly oversee Allegheny Bound Student Orientation Program with the Associate Dean of Students of Wellness Education.
Work with the Registrar and Associate Dean for Student Success to organize and facilitate first year course registration for new students.
Serve on the Leadership Team for the First-Year/Sophomore (FS) Program.
Participate in the planning and delivery of FS Program-related faculty development activities, especially as pertains to first-year advising and transition issues.
Advise the Dean for Student Success and Vice-President for Student Life & Dean of Students on matters relating to student success.
Serve on the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success.
In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and sustain training and professional development activities for academic and other advisors.
In coordination with the senior leadership team of the Office of Student Success and other stakeholders, develop and maintain a comprehensive plan for assessing student outcomes and the success of individual programs.
Minimum Qualifications
M.A. required; Ph.D. preferred.
Minimum 5 years of related/applicable work experience required, preferably in higher education, with background in academic advising, teaching, or related field.
Must be willing to work during the summer months; weekend and evening work will occasionally be required.
