The Copy Editor is responsible for approving, editing, voicing and recording all local and national underwriting announcements for broadcast, streaming and podcasting on WBUR. The Copy Editor works in tandem with the other Copy Editor and with WBURs Underwriting Department. The Copy Editor ensures that all copy submitted for approval provides sponsors timely, grammatical, clear and professional on-air messages within the limits of a 10-, 15-. 20- or 30-second timeframe. This position works directly with WBURs Traffic Manager to coordinate necessary scheduling or other changes of underwriting announcements. Additionally, the Copy Editor communicates with numerous producers and technicians about all national programs and podcasts produced by WBUR.
Voice and record WBUR local and national underwriting announcements into AudioVault digital recording system, ensuring that each message is professional, accurate and in the correct place. There are between 150 and 300 such announcements each day, seven days a week
Review and approve underwriting scripts, helping to ensure the best possible client message within strict time limits; work directly with WBURs Underwriting department on any necessary revisions. Be fluent with foreign and technical terms and pronunciations and possess a keen eye for detail and discrepancies
Record and edit fixed-length of national funders for Here & Now, and On Point. Record, edit, and email audio (mp3, WAV files, etc.) files for potential and current WBUR Underwriting clients. Record, edit and email podcast underwriter spots
Find discrepancies, and work directly with WBURs Traffic Manager to coordinate necessary scheduling or wording changes of underwriting announcements and possible industry conflicts. Check on announcements that appear erroneous and report or correct them
Assist in the training of fill-in announcers, including the use of AudioVault, copy timing, email systems, and creating MP3 and Wave files
Other duties as assigned, including participation in station fundraisers (3x/yr) and participation in station promotional events (1x/mo)
Bachelor's degree or relevant experience required
At least three years of related work experience required
