The Director of Athletics and Recreational Services will report to the Vice President for Student Affairs or her designee and provide innovative and strategic leadership, program development, and administration of a comprehensive athletics and recreational program serving all students, with creative and forward-thinking direction and the vision to develop new programs and initiatives that address evolving needs and trends while maintaining a student-centered point of view. The candidate will:
Have a proven ability to lead, motivate, and provide supervision, strong administrative leadership, and serve as an advocate for the needs of the athletics and recreational programs.
Enhance the athletics and recreational program's brand, visibility, and value to internal and external constituents.
Be committed to supporting student success while actively using best practices with regard to the operation of comprehensive athletics and recreational programs.
Develop and monitor the department's long-range strategic plan, using best practices and a strong commitment to internal and external data collection, analysis, and ongoing program evaluation.
Build rapport and collaborations with multiple constituencies, including academic and service departments, students, and alumni.
Utilize technology and social media to expand the current and evolving opportunities and services, including Esports.
Oversee the intercollegiate varsity sports teams, including recruiting, hiring, and supervising coaches and serving as head of compliance and eligibility.
Ensure Title IX, sexual harassment, anti-hazing programs, and other training programs as required for all coaches, athletics staff, and student-athletes.
Monitor academic progress of student-athletes.
Represent BMCC at conference, regional and national meetings.
Participate in campus-wide student outreach and support activities such as orientation, registration, commencement, and other college-wide events.
Serve on a variety of college and university-wide committees.
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
A Master's degree is required in related field (Athletic Administration, Sports Management, Higher Education Administration, or related program) preferred.
Five (5) years of progressive experience in athletic administration, staff supervision and facility management required (preferably in a college or university setting). Experience with aquatic operations desired.
Evidence of successful implementation of intercollegiate and student recreational programs for a diverse student population required.
Knowledge of NJCAA eligibility rules and compliance strongly preferred.
Knowledge of best practices in athletics and recreational programs with an emphasis on research, assessment, and data-informed decision making.
Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with attention to detail and proven leadership experience.
Ability to work evening hours and weekends and travel to games as needed.
Be a dynamic individual who can work independently and under general supervision to provide courteous and accurate customer service to all students, visitors and campus community.
Be or have been involved in professional associations.
