The DNA Learning Center (DNALC) of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory has immediate full-time educator positions available at the new Regeneron DNALC in Sleepy Hollow, NY. This center, which opened in fall 2019, is a unique collaboration between an established research institute and a rising star in biotechnology. The facility has two teaching labs, teacher offices, and a prep lab, and is located on the Sleepy Hollow campus of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.
Responsibilities will include: - providing hands-on genetics and molecular biology instruction to precollege students visiting the DNALC for academic year field trips, summer camps, and extended research projects; - training and managing a small staff of high school interns; - delivering in-school instruction; - assisting with student research programs; - conducting teacher training; and - developing teaching modules. Selected candidates will become members of a small, influential group recognized worldwide as a leader in creating and disseminating new methods in genetics education, including the fields of genomics, bioinformatics, and data science. Strong candidates will have at least a Bachelor’s degree, a background in biology and experience teaching. New York State teaching certification is a plus, but not required. Postdoctoral scientists who would like to pursue teaching careers are also encouraged to apply—especially those with experience in personal genomics, DNA barcoding, metabarcoding, or bioinformatics. The position demands a motivated self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team, with excellent writing, computer, and communication skills.
Flexible scheduling will require some weekend work. Occasional travel between DNALC facilities may be required for training or instruction.
