The Center for Human Factors Excellence at the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality is seeking a project administrator to support research projects aimed at improving infection control and prevention practices, design research, diagnostic safety and healthcare worker safety.
Familiarity with health care is highly desirable. The candidate should have an understanding of theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities as well as design and development limitations.
Utilizes knowledge of human factors methodologies, quality literature, theories of innovation and operational expertise to help external collaborator's improvement teams develop goals and strategies to achieve those goals.
Provides technical support for quality improvement activities of clinical departments and work units, specifically providing them with the necessary tools and approaches to improve specific measures of quality.
Manage the administrative and scientific implementation of a transdisciplinary and applied research studies aimed at improving infection prevention and control in health care settings, improving healthcare worker safety, and other projects as assigned.
Work collaboratively with study team to assure that study deliverables and report schedules are met as required by the granting agency; track completion of assigned tasks; and any other duties as needed.
Conduct literature review and summarize findings
Assist in the preparation of study protocols and materials and other essential study functions
Recruit study participants
Schedule interviews and collect qualitative data through observations, interviews and focus groups with care professionals and clinicians in the ED, ER and home healthcare.
Assist in the analysis and management of qualitative and basic quantitative data
Assist in writing manuscripts
Assist with the writing and development progress reports, study tools and documents, meeting minutes, and help lead meetings and conference calls with study team and various stakeholders.
Help with other relevant work as needed (e.g., preparation for presentations, conferences, etc.)
Minimum qualifications (mandatory):
Bachelors in Public Health, Human Factors or an equivalent discipline with four years of relevant experience. Strong project management skills.
Interest in working on research projects aimed at improving infection control and prevention practices, design research, and healthcare worker safety.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in research projects
Ability to balance and prioritize tasks, and delivers timely outcomes
Effective team management and communication skills.
Excellent problem solving skills
Basic understanding of the research processes and methodologies including qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Willing to learn about human factors engineering and basics of infection control/prevention basic principles under the guidance of the study leads.
Master's in Public Health, Human Factors or an equivalent discipline.
Strong interest and/or experience in improving infection control and prevention practices in hospitals and other health care settings (i.e., home care, nursing homes, etc.).
Expertise and experience in research processes and methodologies including qualitative and quantitative research and data analysis methods. Strong interest in conducting field research in health care environments.
Experience in reviewing literature using common databases, and use of reference software such as Refworks and Endnote.
Experience in data collection protocols and analysis tools (e.g., REDCap, NVIVO), and IRB protocol preparation.
JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
