The person assigned to this position will be a vital member of the research team of Dr. Kafri. He/she must be able to coordinate multiple, concurrent assignments within a given project or among multiple projects. The person must be extremely proficient and careful in the methods/tasks required for performance of our experiments, and should master new experimental methods rapidly and with great enthusiasm. Testing the therapeutic efficacy of novel HIV-1 based vectors in vivo and evaluating novel approaches to treat HIV-1 in vitro and in vivo are the premise and purpose of this job. Finally the assigned person will be required to supervise activities of students and technicians in the Kafri lab, 2) work closely with Dr. Kafri and 3) generate high titer HIV-1 based vectors for the Kafri and other laboratories.
Education and Experience:
- Knowledge and experience with molecular biology methods including Western, Southern, Northern analysis as well as with molecular cloning, and ELISA. - Knowledge and experience with hazardous materials. - Experience in tissue culture methods including DNA transfection, isolation and culture of primary cells and FACs analysis is required. - Experience in lentiviral vector production, concentration, titration by qPCR, serial dilutions, and ELISA is a significant advantage - Experience in mouse animal models including: mouse breeding,. mouse bleeding, IV, SC, and IP injection is required. - Ability to understand highly specialized equipment required for these research projects. - Ability to reduce data using computer spreadsheets. - Ability to interpret data and present results to PI and collaborators. Ability to orally present data, and assist in preparing manuscripts for publication. - Ability to coordinate with the daily tasks of undergraduate student assistants, and train them and postdoc fellows in the usage of methods and equipment in the laboratory. - Must be able to be qualified as a laboratory worker with radiation safety training. - Work effectively and cooperatively with a variety of individuals: groups, peers, and management. - Initiative and positive attitude, channeled toward team success.
