The Emergency Department at Columbia University has a diverse portfolio of internal and externally funded clinical research with a strong focus on data science. We are seeking an enthusiastic and creative data analyst to join our team of research investigators. Reporting to the Director of Research Administration, the Data Analyst will be responsible for preparing, developing, and presenting analytic solutions for the wide breadth of research in the Department of Emergency Medicine. This is a dynamic role, in which the Data Analyst will work closely with the Principal Investigators to guide study design, database creation, management, and analysis.
In collaboration with the Clinical Data Navigator, develops, coordinates, and maintains data requests for the research division including internal and external projects
Develops dashboards to report requested data sets to varying audiences and for the portfolio of clinical research studies
Creates and maintains research databases with guidance and direction from Principal Investigators
Creates monthly variance reports and prepares data to design solutions
Prepares reports for executive leadership that effectively communicate trends, patterns, and predictions using relevant data.
Leads pre-award requests for arranging data in preparation of grant applications for externally funded programs
Supports post-award (funded studies) by preparing data progress reports, general statistics and demographics to be disseminated to the Principal Investigators and sponsors
Remains abreast and updated of NYP and CUMC mandates, provides data and metrics to comply as needed
Works strategically to provide analysis for developing and expanding programs
Provides support to end users
Serves as departmental liaison to Medical Center and University for data science related matters
Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a field like mathematics, statistics, economics, finance or computer science.
Three years directly related experience required.
Master's degree or certifications in programming languages preferred.
Required Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
Knowledge of financial and operational performance indicators in healthcare
Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases
Experience with SPSS or SAS, Tableau, and/or Epic/EMR
Understanding of addressing and metadata standards.
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Working knowledge of SQL, R, or Python
Must possess excellent interpersonal and high-level written and verbal communication skills
Ability to QA and troubleshoot data
Adept at solving problems quickly, efficiently, and independently.
Ability to set and meet deadlines and work in high pressure
