The Faculty Affairs Office within the School of Arts & Sciences Dean's office ensures compliance with faculty union contracts and manages the payroll, documents, and related record-keeping for over 700 faculty in 32 departments and programs and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.
The Faculty Affairs Officer serves as a central resource for information about faculty for the school and provides guidance and advice on salary, faculty appointments, leaves of absence, merit increases, and other related policies and procedures. Manages faculty data and database, provides report and analysis. Recommends revisions and improvement to faculty affairs policies.
The Faculty Affairs Officer (FAO) manages the procedures and generation of all faculty correspondence and ensures all faculty policies and specific CBA policies are met, researches and identifies solutions for any issues related to:
contracts (initial appointments and reappointments)
course confirmation letters
non-academic and academic leaves
faculty PAFs (new hire, supplemental and change)
updating faculty information for tenure and promotion decisions
The Faculty Affairs Officer advises departments on matters relating to offer letters, contracts, terminations, payroll and benefits, supplemental pay and other employment decisions. Manages faculty leaves of absences. Refines and provides expertise on faculty policies and procedures. Explains, interprets and enforces school and University policies and procedures, including the two Collective Bargaining Agreements. Participates in the revision of the Faculty Handbook to make sure it is in line with faculty affairs processes, and CBA.
The Faculty Affairs Officer manages the central faculty database for school. Ensures that data in the database (Faculty Information System) is accurate and maintained including data related to faculty generated by the Academic Deans and the Deans of Arts & Sciences support staff (appointments and renewals, chair and director appointments and reappointments including compensation packages, sabbatical clocks, reviews, academic and non-academic leaves, etc.) requiring constant communication with deans and staff. Works directly with consultant to ensure database meets our needs in terms of contract generation, course maintenance for part-time-faculty, merit process, and general faculty data management. Prepares statistics and reports for school, university and outside agencies.
The Faculty Affairs Officer collaborates with school and university administrators (particularly TSS), participates on and represents school at appropriate university-wide meetings (such as the Faculty Information Working Group, Faculty Affairs Working Group).
5 years in an academic environment in a financial, analytical, or administrative/management position.
Bachelor's Degree required.
Faculty Affairs experience preferred.
