The Department of Bioengineering has an outstanding opportunity for a Metabolic Modeler (Research Scientist/Engineer 4).
The Metabolic Modeler will be responsible for building and testing a whole-cell metabolic model of Pseudomonas putida. The focus of the project is to work closely with the experimental labs at PNNL and UW to iteratively improve a kinetic model of metabolism with the goal of using the model to reengineer putida metabolism. Results from model simulations will be used to advise the experimentalists on what measurements and perturbations to make to reach the next iterative improvement. This is a regular full-time position but due to funding it is expected to last no more than two years. More information will be given during the interview.
RESPONSIBILITIES •Work collaboratively with the metabolic systems team at UW, PNNL and LLNL labs. •Troubleshoot and build metabolic models. •Assist writing reports for the DOE. •Attend lab meetings. •Analyze results and contribute to reports, articles, and grant proposals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS •Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Biology/Computational Biology, or related discipline. •At least four years’ professional experience using Python and packages such as SciPy and matplotlib. •Experience with building differential equation models, preferably of biochemical systems. •Experience writing for scientific journals, and progress reports. •Proven ability to work as a member in a multidisciplinary research team.
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum requirements.
DESIRED REQUIREMENTS •PhD degree in Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Biology/Computational Biology, or related discipline. •Familiarity with SBML and building biochemical models especially of metabolism.

This position is eligible for remote work with the expectation that communication using zoom and slack will be used when working remote, together with the ability to rapidly convene remote meetings within normal working hours as required.
