SENIOR TECHNICIAN ELECTRONIC , Haystack Observatory , to assist with the implementation, operations, deployment, and maintenance of research-grade scientific instrumentation. Will assist in the operation, assembly, repair, and maintenance of radar and radio receivers, control systems, antenna systems, computers, data networks, and high-power microwave transmitters. Transmitter maintenance may occasionally involve working with high voltages, dielectric oil, and large capacity water systems. Duties will include all phases of assembly, test, debugging, and maintenance in the areas of analog, digital, RF, microwave electronics, and fiber optic networks. As part of these activities, will be involved in design, construction, assembly, and debugging of electronics enclosures. Maintenance and installation activities may occasionally occur that involve assisting in mechanical work and tower climbing, either at the Observatory or at remote field sites.
Job Requirements REQUIRED : graduation from a two-year technical day school in electrical engineering or electronics technology; at least five years of applicable experience; ability to operate technical instrumentation for electronic applications (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and computer-based instrumentation); experience with the assembly of computers; ability to work with computer systems in a variety of configurations, including PCs, workstations, embedded computers, and various operating systems including Linux; demonstrated ability to work effectively with little or no supervision; and willingness and ability to climb radio towers. PREFERRED : Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Altium) and modern fabrication processes for mechanical and/or electronics applications. Job #19341
