The IT Architect is responsible for building, maintaining and promoting an enterprise view of the University of California's (UC's) IT architectural blueprint and roadmap, including: IT standards and processes, architecture/design governance, development methodologies, and models. Scope includes application, security, network, information (structured, unstructured, logical and physical data models), and business architectures. Directly partners with campus business partners and leadership in support of providing a strategic roadmap outlining milestones and deliverables to best align and mature processes and technology with campus needs and strategic initiatives. Identifies and implements bridging architectures in support of organizational change and technology evolution. It incorporates presentation, interoperability, middleware, data access, messaging and other software and hardware technologies, collectively with the purpose to enhance the acquisition, creation, integration and management of applications and services that meet or exceed the mission-critical needs of the UC-system. Responsible for Change and Configuration Management program execution and standard methodologies.

Job Duties 30% -
Perform as the lead Change and Configuration Manager in the Change Management process and provide CAB leadership.
Ensure that all teams are aware of CMDB and change management policies and procedures through the creation of Knowledge Base Articles (KBAs) and training programs.
Ensures standards and framework compliance by providing process and governance for well-documented standards, data models, and information system diagrams.
Directly partners with campus business partners and leadership in support of providing a strategic roadmap outlining milestones and deliverables to best align and mature processes and technology with campus needs and strategic initiatives. Identifies and implements bridging architectures in support of organizational change and technology evolution.
Participates in the architecture review of all critical system designs and provides guidance in the selection and implementation processes.
Independently performs feasibility analyses, up to and including the most complex and advanced, on current and potential future projects.
Establishes enterprise architecture standards and program documentation requirements and ensures compliance through Architecture Reviews.
Acts as Campus steward for overall IT architecture.
Serves as top consultant to, and may participate on IT Governance Committees.
Determines technical strategy and scope, partners with business system analysts and user experience designers, and develops realistic estimates and proposals for IT services and products.
Has expert understanding of the broader impact of work efforts across architectural system components, critical business processes and applications.
Establishes and recommends changes to policies, practices and processes which affect the department.
Emphasis on lean process improvement that results in efficiencies.

ITS Security Statement
Information Technology positions are responsible for the security of UC Institutional Information and IT Resources. The incumbent is required to follow all applicable information security policies, procedures, and standards to maintain minimum standards of information security for data, systems and applications. Supervisors are responsible for making sure their staff have appropriate security skills and qualifications, and complete all appropriate and required security training.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Extensive knowledge of application, data, technology and business domains to support the development of standards and reference architectures that guide solutions for departments, divisions, and the organization at large (campus / medical health center / UC-wide).
Understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map complex business processes to solution options, including (but not limited to) business, systems and data architectures.
Demonstrated ability to translate various and complex business needs into internally and externally developed implementations of scalable and resilient systems.
Demonstrated ability to apply organizational change management concepts and practices in support of IT and campus initiatives.
Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical information for technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
