The College of Philosophy and Letters at Saint Louis University invites qualified applicants for the inaugural Philosophy and LettersChair in Catholicism and Community. The search committee seeks Jesuit candidates committed to the Colleges work in religious, priestly, and lay ministerial formation, and the Universitys larger mission of applying the âœintellectual and ethical heritageâ of its Catholic, Jesuit identity to âœwork for the good of society as a whole.â The search will be limited to internal applicants. The chairholder will be housed in the College of Philosophy and Letters, and would exercise assigned teaching responsibilities in an academic department commensurate with expertise. The establishment of this Chair builds on SLUs commitment to serve as an ongoing site of First Studies for the intellectual formation of Jesuit scholastics and enhances the colleges focus on issues of faith and justice in dialogue with culture. Â We seek candidates with a record of scholarship and teaching in their field of expertise; deep knowledge and training in Ignatian spirituality, the Catholic intellectual tradition and Catholic social teaching; and extensive engagement with community partners in the St. Louis region. Mindful of the colleges emphasis on âœintelligent service,â the chairholder would strive to embody the lived connection between faith and the common good.
