The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for providing oversight for University-sponsored volunteer service programs and community engagement initiatives. This position will work to ensure programs and activities are consistent with the mission and goals of the University and contribute to an enriched and robust local community.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists the Local and State External Affairs Manager in developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive outreach program which delivers quality and diverse programming opportunities.
Identifies, cultivates, and maintains relationships with community leaders, organizations, and networks that expand community engagement and programmatic efforts.
Supports the development and facilitation of new and innovative community engagement and programming efforts.
Facilitates regular community meetings to foster relationship building, collaboration, and promote equitable services for local community and University. This includes strengthen relationships with partners, identifying and addressing improvements to working together to support the local community, including implementation of equitable and best practices and continued communication strategies.
Provides ongoing input, information, and materials (as requested) that support internal and external communication efforts about programming and opportunities. This also includes organizing an annual schedule of community engagement, outreach, and promotional events that reach intended populations.
Supports and assists with coordination of all other volunteer programs, including one-time and ongoing service projects, volunteer placements, donation drives, and volunteer fairs.
Serves on and staffs the University’s Community Outreach Committee
Actively coordinates and/or participates in appropriate committees, task forces, and professional associations and conferences.
Assists with the production of major University-wide programs, as needed
Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the University mission.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent as determined by the appointing authority.
Experience: A minimum of two years’ experience working in community outreach, public engagement, or cultural competency preferably in a college, university, or non-profit setting.
Familiarity with the City of Trenton, Mercer County and surrounding region preferred
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collegially
Ability to plan, organize, and execute complex events.
Excellent organization, interpersonal, and oral/written/presentations skills
Demonstrated commitment to the organizational values of diversity, equity and inclusion
Knowledge of and commitment to the University’s mission and priorities
Demonstrated ability and willingness to work evening and weekend hours.
