Post-Doctoral Research Associate in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace & Biomedical Engineering (Temp)

The post-doctoral research associate will provide support for externally funded research projects aimed at developing a multi-scale approach linking atomic modeling, peridynamics, and finite elements to characterize damage tolerance of complex material systems and to formulate non-linear surrogate models. Desired interests and technical knowledge to include micromechanics modeling and analysis using peridynamics, finite element analysis with user developed subroutines, computer programming to generate user subroutines, mathematics, and fracture mechanics. This position requires excellent technical capabilities, strong interpersonal skills to facilitate engagement with a diverse group of collaborators, sponsors and students, and the ability to execute multiple projects in parallel. Responsibilities include:
* Will plan and perform computational modeling of complex damage scenarios in the TerMaath lab (https://volmechutk.weebly.com/) * Participate in and lead 1) weekly group meetings; 2) weekly project discussions; 3) monthly project phone calls with collaborators; 4) preparation of monthly reports. * Keep detailed records, document procedures, and present results and data. * Thoroughly review scientific literature, understand project goals, and develop ideas to meet milestones and generate new proposals. * Identify publishing targets, outline questions/objectives, design technical approach, and draft manuscript(s). * Be a team player. Help others learn and learn from others. Mentor less experienced researchers. * Provide prompt/thorough communication to PI, group members, and department staff. * Meticulously abide by all UTK laboratory safety protocols, help maintain lab equipment, computers, and facilities.
