The division of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is pleased to offer a full-timeÂ Physician AssistantÂ position in Hepatobiliary, Pancreatic,Â Liver and Kidney Transplant.Â
The Physician Assistant (P.A.), under the direction of a Hepatobiliary/Transplant Surgeon will assist in the care of patients in both hospital and outpatient clinic settings. The P.A. willÂ be anÂ integralÂ part ofÂ the delivery of high-quality patient care and services to patientsÂ that have undergone abdominal organ transplant as well as hepatobiliary surgeries. He or she will work with the hepatobiliary and transplant surgery team to perform hospital rounds, admit patients, daily inpatient care and discharges. The Physician Assistant will conduct discharge education, coordinate outpatient follow-upÂ withÂ both surgery clinic and consultative clinics. This role will also require he or she to participate in transplantÂ surgery,Â donorÂ surgery, outpatient clinic when neededÂ as well asÂ order medications, diagnostic studies, ordering procedural interventions, therapeutic procedures under the supervision of the surgery faculty and obtains results in a timely fashion.Â The Physician Assistant will collaborateÂ with the Surgery Director to develop protocols for refining the management of this patient population regarding clinical acuity and cost perspectives. InÂ addition,Â he or sheÂ will monitor compliance of protocols and work with the Quality ImprovementÂ department regarding the care of the post-liver transplantÂ andÂ hepatobiliaryÂ patients.Â
We are seeking an engaged and collaborative team member who will provide education and support to the post hepatobiliary and abdominal transplant patients and their familiesÂ during the hospital course at the time of discharge. Provide education to the hospital nursing staff regarding the treatment modalities,Â maintainÂ direct communication with all consulting services, team members, and supervising physicians. This position will also support and participate in clinical researchÂ involving hepatobiliary and abdominal transplant patients and work closely with physicians to obtain data for publications. The P.A. will act as a liaison between patients and multiple medical/surgical disciplines to communicate patient care and maintain ongoing dialog with the surgery team and referring physicians plan of care.Â This position will workÂ to maintain and establish new relationships with referring physicians and with the clinic director on target populations and program marketing.Â
