The Keck School of Medicine (KSOM) of the University of Southern California (USC) and Childrenâs Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in the Department of Pediatrics in the Division of Cardiology, are actively seeking a full-time faculty member for the position of the Director of Interventional Catheterization, at the level of Associate or Professor of Clinical Pediatrics. The successful candidate will join four full time catheterization providers in a highly rated interventional catheterization laboratory that handles over 750 cases annually.
Candidates should be academically committed and clinically trained in interventional pediatric cardiology, with expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart defects. The preferred candidate should have a broad exposure to, and familiarity with, coronary artery disease, vascular disease and acquired structural heart disease. This opportunity is primarily focused on mid-level to senior-level faculty with skills and experience in all of the aforementioned areas. Candidates should display excellent communication skills, technical ability and a willingness to participate in the increasingly utilized team-based-care approach.
A strong working knowledge of percutaneous catheter interventional treatments including closures of septal defects, dilation of stenotic (restrictive) valves and arteries and closures of abnormal vessels will be essential. Incorporation of new devices and participation in clinical trials of such devices is also prioritized. Candidates should also demonstrate a rigorous academic focusâideally with a history of research/investigaÂtional pursuits and publications in peer-reviewed journalsâand a clear intention and well-defined plan for continued research, publication, and teaching throughout their careers. A demonstrated ability to mentor junior faculty in the area of clinical research and innovative procedures is also a priority for this role.
This position will also include some general clinical cardiology duties including annual rotation in the inpatient service, as well as outpatient cardiology responsibilities, commensurate with the level of experience of the applicant. Provision of didactic teaching to fellows, residents, medical students and nurses is expected. Night and weekend on-call responsibilities will be shared on a rotating basis with other faculty members in the division.

As a core component of the hospital's Heart Institute, our division offers expertise in all major areas of cardiology, with nationally-recognized subspecialists in all major areas. Children are referred to us for care from across the western United States and Pacific Rim countries.
Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree and have demonstrated research, clinical care, and teaching capabilities. Candidates must be board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Cardiology by the American Board of Pediatrics, and be eligible for medical licensure in the State of California. Completion of a dedicated one-year catheterization fellowship, with at least five years of prior catheterization experience in an attending physician role is preferred.
