The Abdala Lab within the Caruso Department of Otolaryngology- Head and Neck Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar - Research Associate.
This individual will be a critical part of a research team studying the maturation and aging of human cochlear function and new methods for enhancing the clinical utility of otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) in the assessment of sensory hearing loss. Graduate work in audiology, hearing science, biomedical engineering, neuroscience or related fields is preferred. The person in this position will take the lead in data collection on various existing projects involving neonatal and adult subjects, using custom-designed OAE systems and programs. He/she will also supervise other testers and coordinate data management and analysis. This individual will be a vital part of a research team headed by Principal Investigator, Dr. Carolina Abdala and including collaborators from various laboratories in the USC Otolaryngology Dept and across the country. The team will meet regularly to review and discuss results and their implications. The person in this position will have ample opportunity to contribute creatively to the research process and develop their own research questions. This is an exciting and stimulating opportunity for a research-minded audiologist or postdoctoral researcher interested in cochlear mechanics, otoacoustic emissions, auditory development and aging, and the diagnosis of hearing impairment. A communicative person with good people skills and leadership potential is preferred. Some management experience is helpful though not required. Training will be provided for all research techniques.
Preferred Experience: Hearing science biomedical engineering, neuroscience, audiology or related fields.
Temporary, fixed term: one year and renewable on the recommendation of the faculty mentor.
Minimum Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within previous five yearsMinimum Experience: 0-1 yearMinimum Field of Expertise: Directly related education in research specialization with advanced knowledge of equipment, procedures and analysis methods.
