The Department of German at Oberlin College invites applications for a part-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of two semesters, beginning fall 2021, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.

The German Department at Oberlin offers a rigorous curriculum with focal points in language, literature and culture. In addition, a strong cultural program beyond the walls of the classroom complements the academic curriculum. Highlights include: the Max Kade German House, a dormitory designated specifically for students of German; a weekly Stammtisch; a much-lauded annual German/Swiss/Austrian writer-in residence, who spends an entire semester in seminar format with our advanced students and takes part in many of the cultural activities we offer. A world-class music conservatory as well one of the nation’s finest art museums round out the “German experience” at Oberlin.
The incumbent will teach a total of three courses in the general area of German language and literature.
Among the qualifications required for appointment is either the Ph.D. or Masters degree. The position may be especially well suited to candidates still working on their dissertations. Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Previous teaching experience at the college level is desirable.
