The College of Human Medicine of Michigan State University (MSU) seeks a scientist at the rank of professor to join their Parkinson’s disease (PD) research group. The PD research group currently focuses on mechanisms of neurodegeneration, including neuroinflammation and alpha-synuclein biology, with established programs utilizing cell and animal models of PD and levodopa-induced dyskinesias, gene therapy, repurposing drugs and epigenetic contributors to degeneration. The PD research group is housed within the Department of Translational Neuroscience (TN) which also hosts an Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and traumatic brain injury research group. Candidates should be nationally recognized thought leaders with a successful active funding history, and a track record of team-based, collaborative research. The candidate will be expected to participate in mentoring and instruction of students in MSU graduate training programs and work with existing faculty to broaden and enhance the vision for PD research at MSU. A successful candidate will be expected to be a leader in the PD research group, raise the visibility of PD research at MSU, and be willing to direct large, multi-investigator initiatives. The position requires a PhD or equivalent with a record of scholarship and extramural funding in Parkinson’s disease research commensurate with experience.

The scope of the candidate’s research program should demonstrate a strong commitment to translational efforts bridging basic science discoveries with clinical application.
An established track record of participating in multidisciplinary team-based collaborations is essential.
Expertise and a strong track record in research related to aging, Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders with an emphasis in LRRK2 biology.
Knowledge of and/or a track record of work in other neurodegenerative disease including but not limited to Alzheimer’s disease, traumatic brain injury, Huntington’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
