The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology serves as a regional resource for clinical laboratory services required for patient care, research and educational programs in laboratory medicine and pathology. The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time, day shift SR. INTEGRATION ENGINE DEVELOPER. This candidate will work in close collaboration and coordination with laboratory Applications Analysts, technology staff and third-party vendors to ensure that interfaces and data conversions meet business needs. The Developer is responsible for interface engine work in conjunction with UW Medicine EHR applications, external EHR customers and vendors to ensure project success with interface development, deployment and conversions. Ensures that application changes follow change management procedures and protocols, creates and maintains documentation for all assigned application and projects, and develops, plans and executes testing for supported applications and projects. Communicates application changes, enhancements and procedures to all divisional stakeholders and teams as appropriate.
Designs efficient high-quality interface programs, creates efficient and logical program code, and writes clear and concise system descriptions that meet project requirements
Performs investigation of interface-related business and system requirements identified for new or modification requests
Determines impact to interfaces, document configuration, estimate request efforts, and build changes needed.
Evaluates business requirements and processes to provide possible solutions and accurate estimates for development efforts
Serves as the point person for assigned interfaces, which may include coordinating analysis calls, maintaining business requirements documentation, escalating issues encountered, and performing configuration and build changes to interface code
Builds, configures, and deploys interfaces and data conversions
Coordinates or assists in all testing/validation of the interface
Develops or documents interface specifications
Creates mapping documents for HL7 fields and sub-fields between the Sunquest Laboratory Information system values and values for the peer/other systems to serve as a central reference for doing mapping among those various systems
Ensures completion and high quality of deliverables like design documentation, build audits, testing plans and scripts, training curriculum, and activation plans.
Leads projects, using sound project management principles and reports on status as requested
Analyzes complex data sets (HL7 2.x, XML messaging formats such as CCDA)
Exercises discretion and independent judgment on workflow design, problem-solving and other projects that support business needs
Interact with customers, users and departmental representatives to design detailed message flows and integration points
Engages with local technical resources and vendors to resolve connectivity, mapping, or data processing errors
Configure TCP/IP based communication end-points, including VPN, FTP, and HTTPS based connectivity
Develops, manages, and monitors SFTP and File transfers jobs
Maintains current knowledge of technology by attending appropriate continuing education training/seminars and reading-related material
Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field
Performs additional duties as assigned
Requirements Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, Biology or related field AND four to five years of relevant experience.
Healthcare integration engine development experience in a highly complex environment at scale.
Programming experience in Lua, TCL or a similar language supporting integration engine development.
Expert knowledge of healthcare interoperability standards, especially HL7 2.x.
Expert knowledge of communications protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, SFTP, HTTPS/TLS)
Ability to motivate and direct staff members and subordinates.

Strong documentation skills.
Exceptional customer service orientation.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
Expertise working in a Sunquest and Epic operating environment preferred
Working knowledge of XML desired
HL7 Certification desired
Working knowledge of HL7 FHIR and HL7 CDA
