Desktop Support Specialist - Scientific Computing, Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging - (21001150)
The Scientific Computing Unit provides a variety of information technology services including network access, file sharing, server backups, network and data security, database support, laboratory information systems support, and desktop support for Windows and Macintosh clients. Desktop computers are fully networked for Intra/Internet access and licensed for presentation software and data management and analysis. Technical staff provides desktop support, consulting, systems analysis and programming services.
The Desktop Support position will serve as the first point of contact for customers seeking technical assistance over the phone, email and in-person. They will perform remote troubleshooting through diagnostic techniques and pertinent questions for both hardware and software issues. Installing and maintaining operating systems, hardware and computer peripherals. Basic troubleshooting of networking and connection issues. Providing basic training on computer operation and management to end users.
Proven work experience as Desktop Support Engineer or Support Technician with 2 to 3 years experience in a Helpdesk role, preferably in a research setting.
Associate degree or equivalent experience.
A+ and/or Network+ and/or Security+
Knowledge of popular operating systems, software applications, and remote connection systems.
Computer imaging and deployment.
Microsoft SCCM, WDS, Active Directory.
