With decades of academic laboratory experience in pathology and genetics, the Knight Diagnostic Laboratories deliver advanced diagnostic testing to make personalized medicine a reality. Specializing in oncology, rare genetic disorders, and infectious disease, the laboratories are CLIA certified and CAP accredited. Our Medical Directors and seasoned technical staff have many years of experience in clinical testing and test development and are dedicated to providing the best quality service for physicians and their patients.Through our close partnership with the Knight BioLibrary and Histopathology Shared Resource Laboratories, research investigators can gain access to human biological specimens, histology, and immunohistochemistry services.
The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the universitys missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
The position will include membership in the Knight Cancer Institute and a faculty appointment in the OHSU Department of Pathology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, depending on qualifications. The Knight Diagnostic Laboratories operate as a non-profit division of the Cancer Institute and run approximately 25,000 tests per year with a primary focus on cancer genomics. Areas of specialization include next-generation DNA sequencing of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies, RNA sequencing of solid tumors, array-based chromosomal and methylation analyses, immune receptor sequencing, minimal residual disease PCR/sequencing, post-transplant chimerism analyses, and FISH. In addition, the Labs are developing custom clinical assays in the areas of proteomic analysis (Nanostring GeoMx platform), ctDNA, and ultra-sensitive detection of minimal residual disease in leukemia patients. Candidates must be board-certified in anatomic and/or clinical pathology as well as molecular genetic pathology. Formal training or experience in bioinformatics for next-generation sequencing is of particular interest. Under the leadership of the Knight Cancer Institute, Dr. Brian Druker, and the Precision Oncology Director, Dr. Gordon Mills, the Knight is pioneering novel approaches to precision oncology, and the Knight Diagnostic Labs play a pivotal role in this work. Early detection of cancer is another area of focus that may provide opportunities for interested candidates. This position reports to the Director of the Knight Diagnostics Laboratory. The academic appointment for this position resides in the Department of Pathology and for academic responsibilities, reports to the Chair of Pathology.
Proven success in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, history of success in obtaining extramural funds for clinical trials and/or basic science research.
In addition to signing out molecular pathology clinical diagnostic reports, this position will offer the opportunity to develop and validate new clinical molecular diagnostic tests, to interact with members of the Knights Precision Oncology program in biomarker assessment for clinical trials, to help oversee the management of daily laboratory operations, to develop a collaborative or independent clinical and/or translational research program, and to contribute to the education of residents and fellows. It is expected that this position is responsible for ensuring alignment of goals that are common between the Knight Diagnostics Laboratory and the Pathology Department.
