Essential Functions: The Mechanical Engineering Department at Wayne State University invites candidates to apply for the tenure-track faculty position in the Mechanical Engineering Program. We expect to make the appointment at the Assistant Professor level.Teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, introducing new courses in the applicant's respective field of expertiseDeveloping an externally-funded research program, supervising and mentoring both graduate and undergraduate studentsEngaging in professional societies and university services.
Qualifications: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in mechanical engineering or physics. Strong background in fluid mechanics including multiphase flow, simulation of flows with complex interfaces, and hydrodynamics instabilities. Must show evidence of a sustained peer-reviewed publication record in prestigious refereed journals such as Journal of Fluid Mechanics and presented their results at national and international conferences. Strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the College and University. Excellent oral and written communication skills.Ability to teach and mentor students in Mechanical Engineering courses, including graduate courses such as Intermediate Fluid Mechanics (ME 5300); Fundamentals of Mechanics (ME 5700); Special Topics: Numerical Methods of Engineering Applications (ME 5995); Special Topics: Introduction to Multiphase Flows (ME 7995); Advanced Fluid Mechanics (ME 7300); Computation Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer (ME 7310) as well as undergraduate courses: Thermal Fluid Systems Design (ME 4300) and Fluid Mechanics: Theory and Laboratory (ME 3300).
