An experienced, energetic athletic maintenance staff member will report to the Associate Director, Athletic Maintenance, and the Supervisor, Fields, Athletic Maintenance. He or she will need to provide Boston College Athletics and the public with clean and safe athletic facilities and playing surfaces. Applicants must show strong skills; in reading diagrams as well as written and verbal communication. Must have proven ability to work and communicate well with other Athletic Maintenance staff and other University members such as; Athletic Department, BC Facilities Service staff, students, athletes, coaches and contracted vendors. Must be able to work on their own and with others on projects and tasks with sensitive timelines. Must be able to work in extreme cold and hot weather. Duties include but are not limited to: highly maintained natural grass surfaces, spraying and spreading fertilizer and plant protectants with spray rig and or spreaders, irrigation systems repair, field marking and painting, synthetic playing surfaces, stadium maintenance, maintenance of assigned surrounding landscapes, walks, parking lots and planting beds. Maintenance of outdoor recreation areas; tennis and basketball courts and arena maintenance including: rink, basketball floor, function set ups and breakdown. The Athletic Maintenance department supports many University events including: commencement, masses, tailgating events, alumni weekend, concerts/live performances and other functions. Daily tasks include but are not limited to: trashing, blowing, mowing, string trimming, field painting, sweeping, raking, shoveling, tamping, carrying 50lbs bags over long distances, measuring, cleaning, pushing spreaders for long duration of time, climbing ladders, light mechanics, weeding, general maintenance work or any other work assigned by manager. Safely operate golf carts, tractors, Toolcats, skid steers, mowers, blowers, aerators, utility vehicles, fork lifts, top dressers, infield groomers, sprayers and spreaders. Applicants must show strong skills in reading diagrams, as well as written and verbal communication. Must have proven ability to work and communicate well with Athletic Maintenance staff and others, such as: Athletics Department, BC Facilities Services staff, students, athletes, coaches and contracted vendors. Must be able to work with others and independently on projects and tasks with sensitive timelines. Must be able to work in extreme cold and hot weather. Successful candidates will be primarily assigned to athletic fields but may be required to support/operate a Zamboni machinery and perform arena and rink maintenance from time to time.

Required *Minimum of 3-5 years working in golf or athletic turf *Must have current Massachusetts driver's license *Must have current Massachusetts applicator pesticides license *Must be able to obtain Massachusetts hoisting license within 6 months of hire Preferred: *2 or 4 year degree in turfgrass management and or related horticultural field *Safely operate turf maintenance equipment vehicles and snow removal machinery *Experience in maintaining and repairing a block irrigation system *Working knowledge of spreader and sprayer calibration and operation *Experience in the operation of field marking / painting and field layout *Maintenance and operation of reel type mowers both walk behind and ride on *Proven experience in maintenance of highly maintained turfgrass playing surfaces including; baseball fields, football fields, softball fields *Strong mechanical skills and troubleshooting skills are highly preferred *Experience in the maintenance and operation of ice rinks and resurfacing equipment a plus
