The Manager for Fire, Safety & Compliance is responsible for developing, implementing, disseminating procedures, and standards related to programs designed to ensure safety of faculty, students and staff. The Manager for Fire, Safety & Compliance responsibilities include planning for response to fires and other emergencies on campus. Serves as incident commander in absence of the Commanding Officer. The Manager for Fire, Safety & Compliance is responsible for ensuring compliance with NJ Uniform Fire Safety Code, OSHA Standards, NJ Environmental Protection (Right to Know), and other codes and standards related to fire prevention, safety education, response, training and life safety (e.g. Tabletop exercises, the scheduling and coordination of training, preparing and effectuating evacuation protocols and drills, emergency action plans, etc.). Manager for Fire, Safety & Compliance is in charge of ensuring compliance and preparing the College’s reporting under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act), NJ Cunningham/Ruiz Act for the College
· Bachelor’s degree in fire science, fire engineering, Safety or Industrial Engineering, or public safety or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the degree requirements · Strong interpersonal and communications (both oral and written) skills. · Five years of related experience or the equivalent in fire/life safety with emphasis on fire prevention, fire, industrial and/or safety code compliance, training and inspections. · Demonstrated knowledge of fire alarm, automatic fire suppression systems; industrial hygiene and safety systems and apparatus required. · Must be available to respond to emergency situations after hours, on weekends and holidays. Overtime Compensatory time for pay and/or other time off benefits consistent with the current/prevailing bargaining agreement language will be afforded. · Must possess and maintain drivers’ privileges in NJ at all times during employment. · The selected candidate must successfully pass a background check and remain SORA Compliant/Certified.
Must have and maintain valid driver’s privileges in the State of New Jersey. Must also maintain proficiency and certification under the NJSP – Security Officer Registration Act (SORA) as a condition of employment.
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain certification as the Clery Compliance Officer training within 6 months from the date of hire.
OSHA Industrial certifications and a New Jersey Firefighter I and II and/ or Fire Officer Certification are preferred.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to taste or smell.
The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
