Job Description Summary: Supervises the daily activities of the Department of Public Safety and officers. Conducts preliminary investigations of minor offenses/incidents occurring on University property; provides investigative assistance to police involved with preliminary and follow-up investigations; prepares comprehensive reports and memorandum on all incidents reported. Directs the performance of officers when responding to a major/minor incident. Reports to the Director of Public Safety.
Minimum Qualifications Eligible to obtain and renew a Security Officer license from St. Louis County. A valid driver license CPR/First Aid certification. High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelors Degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications Good leadership and supervisory skills required; provides leadership to the staff, projects, contractors, and students; serves as both supervisor and advisor. Ability to identify problems quickly and make accurate, timely decisions. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Analytical and persuasive skills. Ability to interact effectively with students, employees, and management.
Essential Duties Provide during evening shift primarily Monday Friday, 4 pm to Midnight Assists with the interviewing, selection, training, and evaluation of staff. Assigns and directs the efforts of Public Safety Officers. Directs the activity/performance of the Public Safety Officers when responding to a major or minor offense or incident. Disciplines staff as necessary. Assures that critical matters are communicated quickly to the Director of Public Safety and officers under his/her control. Responsible for making periodic inspection tours to observe the demeanor, efficiency, and appearance of Public Safety Officers. Performs all Public Safety Officer duties when necessary or directed. Issues and enforces directives on work orders to Public Safety Officers. Ensures that all officers comply with policies and procedures mandated by the department and the University. Assists in the training and development of the department. Conducts preliminary investigations of minor offenses/incidents occurring on University property and reported to the Public Safety Department. Provides investigative assistance to the Webster Groves Police Department in the preliminary and follow-up investigation of major offenses/incidents occurring at the main or extended campuses. Prepares comprehensive reports and memorandum on all offenses and incidents reported to the DPS; provides timely notification to University officials. Conducts preliminary and follow-up investigations of personal injury accidents, missing property reports, vandalism, and other incidents where an insurance claim will be initiated by the University. Provides public safety counsel and assistance to the extended campuses. Creates and disseminates crime prevention programming and education to the University system. Manages payroll and schedules of Public Safety Officer. Working knowledge of access control and video management systems. Reviews and approves written incident reports in the Public Safety report writing system. Knowledge of the Clery Act and ability to properly classify and report incidents. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Public Safety.
