The Dean's Office for the College of the Environment at the University of Washington has created a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team to address diversity within the college. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Program Specialist position for the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ADDEI) has been created to coordinate diversity-related activities for this newly formed team.
ABOUT THE TEAM:
The Dean's Office for the College of the Environment at the University of Washington created a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team to address diversity within the college. The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Program Specialist position for the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ADDEI) has been created to coordinate diversity-related activities for this newly formed team. This team will: •Collaborate with College leadership and key stakeholders to strengthen the College’s diversity programs and policies in alignment with the UW Diversity Blueprint and build on the results of the 2016 College Culture Study. •Build on the College’s efforts to actively recruit & retain a diverse student body, faculty & staff. •Identify opportunities and strategic partnerships that deepen the College’s engagement with issues of environment and equity as arenas for scholarship, learning and public engagement.
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
This position will work closely with the ADDEI to contribute to both College and campus-wide goals for inclusivity, impacting the recruitment and retention of diverse students, staff and faculty that more accurately match current national and state of Washington demographics.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office Outreach (45%) •Coordinate existing and create new outreach efforts at the College of the Environment to diversify the K-12 and community college pipelines. •Establish diversity-related outreach to College of the Environment, the UW, and the surrounding community. •Conduct outreach to STEM and environmental justice related organizations. •Conduct outreach to diverse communities via face-to-face interactions and social media.
Coordinate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office Research •Create mapping of the following organization/communities: environmental justice, STEM, communities of color. •Conduct qualitative, quantitative, and participatory action research.
Coordinate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Mentoring •Collaborate with the College of the Environment and the UW to coordinate mentoring programs & activities.
Coordinate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Training •Collaborate with UW and community stakeholders to conduct and/or organize workshops on diversity-related topics.
Other duties as assigned.
This position will be headquartered on the Seattle campus, but the incumbent must be able to travel within Seattle and surrounding area.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: •Bachelor's degree in education, ethnic studies, science, environment, social work, arts and sciences or a related field. •Two years of experience in multicultural programming within a higher education institution •Experience in diversity, equity and inclusion work •Experience with issues related to social/environmental justice •Experience working with underrepresented students in STEM •Strong communication skills, including writing, speaking and interpersonal
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except where there are legal requirements such as license/certification/registration.
