Program Coordinator - Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources 16423
The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Program Coordinator. This position will manage the operations of the Innovation Hub, including rapid prototyping, welding, and a 3D metal printer facility and oversee daily operations in the Rapid Prototyping Center.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Manage the operations of the Innovation Hub, including rapid prototyping, welding, and a 3D metal printer facility. Maintain operating knowledge of all major equipment located in the Innovation Hub.
Administer billing and inventory systems for Innovation Hub facilities. Ensure proper rates are being applied to each activity, equipment usage is being recorded appropriately and accurately, and sufficient supply inventory is available to meet customer needs. Ensure that metrics for equipment usage, inventory, and staff usage are captured and used to guarantee that the needs of students, instructional courses, research, and external users.
Work with Statler College Safety Officer to create and document user training requirements and lab safety protocols for Innovation Hub facilities. Develop plan to coordinate facility access with satisfactory completion of equipment utilization and safety trainings.
Serve as a resource for other maker spaces and innovation initiatives on campus. Work with students, faculty, staff, and community to support development and operations of Innovation Hub programs. Work with college K-12 outreach staff to develop STEM learning activities.
Develop, maintain, and perform trainings with courses and research projects, personal projects, and external users to ensure the safe operations of the equipment. Decide depth of training based on the hazardous nature of each piece of equipment and the corresponding task being performed. Assess trainings on a quarterly basis and revise as necessary.
Oversee trained and qualified facilities users to ensure the safety of the user, occupants, and equipment. Provide guidance and oversight when necessary and guarantee that procedures and protocols are upheld. Take the necessary action to safeguard users, employees, and facilities within Innovation Hub guidelines.
Create an access schedule and staffing plan for use of the facilities including internal users for recognized courses and research projects, personal projects, and users external to the institution. Monitor plan and adjust as needed to maximize facility availability and satisfy user work requests.
Oversee daily operations in the Advanced Prototyping Center and assign work and responsibilities to the correct shop staff based on his/her knowledge. Supervise shop staff to ensure that a high standard of work is being met.
Create and maintain an inventory of the G85 Prototyping Center equipment capabilities. Assess usage data to determine the volume on specific equipment is sufficient for and the correct capabilities are being offered for engineering course curriculum. Ensure that the equipment remains relevant in the industry. Make suggestions for changes to the Innovation Hub Director within the Stater College Dean's Office.
Emphasize the necessity of designing prototyping and testing process and the capabilities to facility users and external customers. Support engineering courses and student projects by teaching continuing education class and individual machine trainings. Encourage better design around manufacturing and fabrication equipment in the Innovation Hub.
Direct users on a variety of prototyping equipment in hot works, manual machining, CNC machining, and woodworking used for engineering courses, student projects, and personal prototyping. Provide operational knowledge on specific process to assist prototyping activities and maintain the integrity of the equipment.
Assist engineering courses, student projects, and other users in engineering design tasks using computer aided drafting software i.e. AutoCAD Fusion 360 and Solidworks. Make suggestions and provide feedback on design changes to users based on machine capabilities. Perform modifications if necessary, to achieve completion.
Generate tool paths for various pieces of CNC equipment using computer aided manufacturing (CAM) software using engineering CAD models from engineering courses, student projects, and other users. Select the proper post processor in the CAM software to produce G-code and M-Code to be transferred to the CNC machine.
Assist and review tool paths generated by students, faculty and other users to ensure the safety of the equipment and the user. Adjust cutting feeds, speeds, and cut depths for proper operations of equipment to produce a quality, final part.
Assist with other functions and tasks in the Innovation Hub as needed.
Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field.
Four (4) years of experience in the following:
Setup, maintenance, and operations of machining and fabrication equipment.
Engineering Design using different types of Computer Aided Drafting Software.
Reading and understanding blue prints and part drawings.
Three (3) years of experience working in the following:
Managerial or supervisory role.
Customer service-oriented environment.
Two (2) years of welding experience.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to select proper processes, techniques, and tooling during fabrication.
Demonstrated ability to utilize electronic systems for management activities and billing procedures.
Demonstrated ability to use CAD and CAM software effectively to produce precision parts.
Ability to operate CNC lathes, multi-axis CNC mills, and CNC cutting systems including selecting feeds and speeds.
Ability to learn institutional requirements for the protection of intellectual property, technology transfer, and export control.
Ability to learn specific institutional or college policies and procedures.
Demonstrated ability to utilize quality control and reverse engineering techniques to support operations.
Demonstrated ability to operate a multitude of software's required to operate varying degrees of machines and systems.
Knowledge of hot works operations and welding principles and the ability to teach and manufacture with said abilities.
