We're looking for a Director of Content to join our Communications and Marketing team. In this role, you will manage and lead an award-winning and high-performing team of full-time and freelance writers, editors, designers, and multimedia producers who help fulfill this mission by creating, editing, and publishing stories that share these ideas with our audience of current and aspiring global leaders. You will serve on the leadership team of Stanford GSB's Communication and Marketing group and will report to the Chief Communications and Marketing Officer.
To be successful in this role, you will have strong management, organizational, and editorial skills, a willingness and demonstrated ability to collaborate, a keen understanding of the content and multimedia content creation process, and solid content judgment. You will bring communications experience, excellent judgement and the ability to understand complex and varied constituent perspectives. You will have experience leading and developing content teams at the highest professional standard.
Your primary responsibilities include:
Lead Stanford GSB's content strategy and ensure that content is aligned with the organization's internal and external key messages.
Drive innovations in storytelling, formats and approaches that will help us increase our reach and engagement with primary audiences. This may include leading strategic projects that include discovery and recommendations to build support for new ideas.
Manage a team and budget that develops written and multimedia projects by bringing together and collaborating with other outsourced producers and editors, production crews, motion graphics designers, and writers.
Evaluate the impact of our content by understanding web and social media traffic and engagement and qualitative feedback from our faculty, business partners and audiences.
Partner with colleagues to achieve reach and engagement goals across social media, web, email, public relations, and other distribution platforms.
Lead the creation of our award-winning alumni magazine and ensure that stakeholders align with our approach and evolve future editions based upon audience feedback and business needs.
Act as an ambassador for the Communication team building relationship with faculty, senior staff, alumni and students so that we can work together to communicate information from the GSB in impactful ways.
Work closely with the Communications and Marketing Leadership Team to manage priorities and resources for the department and find ways to be most efficient in resource utilization and most impactful in communicating key messages. Act as leader in helping develop culture and community within the organization.
Ensure that information included in departmental and university publications is in conformance with university policies and procedures.
Have a strong understanding of SEO, keyword research, information architecture, and usability best practices.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
Bachelor's degree in English, communications, or journalism, and eight years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Excellent communications skills and presence at all levels and for all audiences.
Strong influencing, negotiating, and relationship management skills.
Demonstrated ability to earn credibility and influence opinion leaders.
Understanding of brand management principles.
Capacity to write and synthesize complex materials and communicate highly technical information in a manner easily understood.
Ability to motivate, develop and train staff.
Team player mentality - everyone pitches in to get the job done.
Creative thinker with a desire to seek opportunities for continuous improvement.
