Simmons is an equal opportunity employer.Job Summary:The Instructional Designer works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and other team members to design high quality courses in a variety of modalities, particularly in online and blended modalities, and applies research-based best practices in course design and leverages effective tools, resources, and techniques that enhance student learning. This role includes project management and building strong collaborative relationships on initiatives that involve multiple instructional design projects or longer-term work in support of particular programs, in alignment with the University?s strategic priorities. Reporting to the Director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching (?CET?), the Instructional Designer also plays a key role in contributing to faculty development programs and services, including creating stand-alone asynchronous resources, asynchronous resources to support existing or new programs, and proposing and creating new services or resources related to instructional design support. This is a full time position that can be fully remote, partially remote, or campus based.Responsibilities:Instructional DesignPartner with faculty in instructional design of individual courses and provide support to faculty during each stage of the course design process. Tasks include:Analyze faculty and course design needs;Assist in identifying and crafting learning objectives;Proposing detailed design for implementation;Ensure alignment between course objectives, assessments, and course content, as well as alignment with broader curriculum and program learning outcomes;Consult with faculty to recommend appropriate e-learning tools, media, and teaching strategies to accomplish course learning objectives;Storyboard, design, and develop engaging learning assets;Match design and methods with content, audience, and business needs; apply edits as needed;Mentor faculty as needed throughoutSupport detailed course production within a LMS.Project ManagementServe as designated project lead on initiatives that include multiple Instructional Design projects within one academic program.Responsibilities include:Collaborate with appropriate leadership within the academic unit and other stakeholders to draft an initial statement of work;Create project work plan, assigning tasks to team members and tracking status of work;Organize, schedule, and lead team and/or client (faculty) meetings as needed;Draft all project documentation, such as weekly project update reports;Manage/facilitate needed communication among faculty, instructional designers, faculty/program leadership, CET, and Technology as related to ID projects;Raise issues, coordinating efforts to resolve them, escalating to manager as needed, and track status;Supervise student workers as applicable.Contribute to Faculty Development Programs and Services In collaboration with other CET staff or staff in other units as appropriate, develop asynchronous and/or digital assets to enhance existing faculty development programming or as a stand-alone resource;Contribute to strategic planning within CET and as needed, propose programs, resources, and/or services to strengthen support for faculty related to instructional design;Develop and facilitate faculty development programs as assigned or as proposed; collaborate with other offices at Simmons as needed;Propose and offer 1:1 services related to instructional design support, as workload and priorities permit;Collaborate with Projects and Events Coordinator, and other offices as appropriate, to create and maintain systems to store and share digital resources.Ongoing Professional GrowthMaintain currency in best practices and emerging trends in instructional design, applications of educational technology, and teaching and learning research more broadly;Serve on relevant University or Colleges of the Fenway committees as assigned.QualificationsBachelor?s degree required;Master?s degree in instructional design, educational technology or related field strongly preferred;Minimum of three years? professional experience in related field required, including instructional design, online learning, instructional technologies, and training design and facilitation, preferably in a higher education setting;Proficiency in building courses in a Learning Management System (particularly Moodle) required and video production/editing experience strongly preferred;Knowledge of best practices in online course development and facilitation required;Experience in planning and managing multiple projects simultaneously;Competency in quickly mastering new and emerging tools and technologies;Excellent verbal and written communication skills;Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends, which is a rare but possible occurrence.Required Application MaterialsResumeCover LetterSalary GradeS08Instructions to Applicants: Please upload all applicable application materials (e.g. resume/cv, cover letter, writing sample, teaching philosophy, etc.) in the "Resume/CV" box on page 2 ("My Experience") of this application.
