Research Associate (Postdoctoral Researcher) Fixed Term
The MSU Center for Statistical Training and Consulting (http://cstat.msu.edu/) is part of Michigan State University’s infrastructure for facilitating excellence in research. CSTAT invites applications for a Research Associate (postdoctoral research). We anticipate the start date to be June 1, 2021 (an alternative start date may be negotiated). Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a quantitative STEM field (e.g. Social Sciences, Natural Sciences) by the start of the appointment, or show evidence that they will receive their degree within six months of that start date.
Candidates must have demonstrated excellence in research in statistics or closely related fields and a proven record of self-motivated research. Experience and interest in scientific computing is required. Strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills, including proficiency with the English language, are essential.
Specific anticipated research topics are one of the following: high dimensional data analysis, physiology and wearable technologies, text mining, natural language processing, Bayesian modeling.
Successful candidates will:
apply statistical, computational, and scientific expertise to the design, implementation, research data management and analysis, interpretation, and reporting of original research studies;
participate in developing or delivering CSTAT workshops to the general University audience;
work with collaborative research teams on research projects of interest to Professor Marianne Huebner or Dr. Wenjuan Ma. Collaborations with other MSU research teams will be possible and encouraged. Successful candidate will also be given opportunities to pursue their own research agendas and participate in writing grant proposals.
The expected duration of this postdoctoral position is 2 years subject to satisfactory progress and can be extended depending on funding.

Doctorate -Statistics, Biostatistics, or quantitati
The job requires a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, or a quantitative field (e.g. Social Sciences, Natural Sciences);
excellent programming skills in a statistical software, e.g. R or Python;
a strong background in statistical modeling; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and written and oral communication skills, including proficiency with the English language, are essential.
Two or more years of experience using at least one major statistical software program (e.g. R, Python, SAS, STATA, or others);
ability to evaluate data quality and improve metadata aspects using common statistical software programs;
track record demonstrating success in collaborative research projects and report writing;
two or more years of experience in statistical collaboration and data analysis; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously;
experience preparing instructional materials on statistical methods, tools, and practices, or experience teaching audiences how to apply them;
highly self-motivated, excellent organizational and project management skills.
