Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Part Time Mental Health Staff Nurse for the Southwoods State Prison, located in Bridgeton, New Jersey.
The Mental Health Staff Nurse demonstrates competency in assessment and identification of the psychological and physical health of adults (18 to 64 years), and geriatrics (65+) all population groups and their personal strengths. Identifies inmate-centered goals and nursing objectives and implements prescribed interventions and solutions for the identified problems.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Collects and assesses continuous clinical data that is comprehensive, accurate and systematic as a basis for decisions regarding nursing practices.
Interviews and observes inmate to assess needs on an ongoing basis as measured by chart documentation and inmate report forms.
Uses knowledge of behavioral concepts such as anxiety, loss, grief and anger to assist the inmate in coping, adapting and dealing constructively with feelings.
Displays initiative and leadership qualities when assigned the duties of charge nurse by the Nurse Manager.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
Minimum of one (1) year of psychiatric nursing experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or its equivalent.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes. Physically able to lift and carry upstairs an emergency treatment bag that can weigh up to 45 pounds and assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds).
Must be approved by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and adhere to all DOC requirements.
