The Gresham and Ghedin labs at NYU Biology are looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate focusing on computational biology and bioinformatics applied to the study of influenza.
This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by mentors incorporating individual development plans in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during the postdoc appointment period.
Projects in the Gresham and Ghedin labs are focused on understanding viral evolution and biology, viral genetic variation, and virus-host interactions. This position will contribute to a major NIH-funded project that aims to investigate the response in humans to influenza vaccines using a variety of large-scale biological assays. Additional ongoing projects provide opportunities to contribute to studies of viral genetic diversity and the dynamics of viral transmission and evolution.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD, have prior research experience using next generation DNA sequencing, proteomics, and machine learning and have a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Experience with database management and large-scale data integration is desirable.
