An opportunity exists for the experienced, RN, NP or PA to apply clinical knowledge in a dynamic, tertiary care teaching Hospital. Seeking an individual with excellent assessment, communication and organization skills.
Duties of a Risk Management Coordinator may include the following but are not limited to:
Investigates serious occurrences and notifies the Risk Manager and CMO or designee.
Provides guidance to staff on topics including but not limited to informed consent, end of life decisions, documentation, advance directives & challenging patient scenarios.
Analyzes potential & active medical malpractice cases. Conducts comprehensive review of medical records, quality evaluations, Policies & Procedures and researches best practices.
Composes case summaries for Medical Malpractice Defense Counsel & claim file reference.
Confers with Legal Counsel for legal advice regarding Hospital/Patient related matters, including but not limited to Medical Malpractice, Health Care Law, NYS and Federal regulations.
Identifies, investigates and participates in the Sentinel Event process; submits Root Cause Analyses to the NYS Department of Health.
Participates in the creation, implementation, education and revision of assigned Administrative Policies & Procedures.
Provides staff education on issues related to Patient Safety, Medical Malpractice Prevention, Regulatory Compliance and Quality Improvement.
Accepts legal papers on behalf of the Hospital & hospital employees; such as medical malpractice, CPS matters.
Assumes Risk Management paid on call responsibilities on evenings, weekends & holidays
Valid New York State licensed: Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
Bachelor Degree or higher
Five or more years of broad hospital clinical experience
Healthcare Risk Management experience
Patient Safety or Quality experience
One year of Leadership experience including committee facilitation, staff supervision, teaching responsibilities
