Maintains the plant in working order. Examines boilers,pressure vessels, tanks to locate defects such as leaks, weak spots ordefective sections so they can be repaired. Repairs or replaces defective partssuch as safety valves or regulators, using various types of tools andmachinery. Must be able to use welding and cutting torches and saws as neededto support steam plant operations. Must have experience in preventativemaintenance and scheduling deferred maintenance. Must have the computer skillsnecessary to research and order spare parts and replenish the plant stock toensure that the steam plant can operate continuously. Fills in for supervisorwhen needed. Identify the training needs of subordinates and developinstruction to meet the identified need. Must be able to teach or instructothers in their duties.
Job Skills: Excellentmechanical ability, must be proficient in welding technologies such as metalinert gas (mig), tungsten inert gas (tig), oxyacetylene torch and plasma arccutter. Must be proficient in metal fabrication, have the ability to readblueprints, use power tools and hand tools. Must have the ability to work wellwith others. Must possess the ability to make decisions under pressure and tocommunicate well, both orally and in writing. Must be trained in, and have theability to use, proper safety equipment as required for the duties of this position.Must be trained and have the ability to work in confined spaces and work fromladders or scaffolding.
Must have good attendance habits and be willing to workflexible schedules and overtime as required.
