Dept Marketing Statement Under the direction of the interim Vice Chancellor, the Equity Research Data Analyst (Analyst) will lead key assessment and evaluation initiatives for the Division of Student Affairs and Success in support of ongoing equity innovation efforts. The Analyst will serve in a key analytical and advisory role to the Divisional Leadership Team and lead data analysis for the units and programs in the division, with a focus on equity and student success. The Analyst will work closely with the Division of Student Affairs and Success units to coach units in equity analysis and increase their ability to make data driven decisions. The Analyst will use advanced professional concepts and organizational objectives to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways. The Analyst works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. The Analyst will use multiple data collection and analysis techniques, as well as existing theoretical frameworks, to assess ongoing work, including student progress, retention, and related outcomes. The Analyst applies full understanding of internal and external policies and procedures. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
The Analyst position will also be part of a federally- funded grant program, with primary responsibility for developing and implementing evaluation projects related to current grant programs including equity analysis of student outcomes. The successful candidate will use multiple data collection and analysis techniques, as well as existing theoretical frameworks, to assess ongoing work, including enrollment, retention, and related outcomes. The Analyst explores related goals and outcomes aligned with the grant project logic models. The Analyst will serve as a key stakeholder and work in close collaboration with campuswide projects, HSI Initiatives Director and Project Directors. The Analyst manages an internal evaluation team of various equity initiatives, as well as, works closely with external evaluators of various funded grants.
The Division of Student Affairs and Success provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student affairs programs and activities across departments, divisions, colleges, and administrative units. The Student Affairs and Success Division includes Career Success, EOP, STARS, Disability Resource Center, Learning Support Services, the Resource Centers, Dean of Students, Slug Support and Basic Needs, Student Development & Engagement, Student Conduct, and Student Health, which all provide direct services and resources to students.
The Hispanic-Serving Institution team was established in 2015 when the University received its first of five US Department of Education (USDE) HSI grant in the amount of $2.6 million, paid over a 5-year period, which aimed to reduce those disparities for Latinx students by implementing research-based, data-driven, interwoven activities that aimed to help put into place the systemic support Latinx students need to successfully navigate the university experience. Job Duties 40k%: Analysis, reporting, and managing evaluation and data projects: Researches, gathers, analyzes and summarizes information for research projects with a broad range of internal and external and / or current and historical information.
Leads the planning and implementation of program evaluation and equity analysis projects, facilitating, identifying the scope, goals and deliverables and providing analysis and reports.
Establish data collecting, and management procedures that allow for both formative and summative assessment of Division of Student Affairs and Success and HSI Initiatives.
Develops and revise queries and reports using campus business intelligence tools (Infoview, Tableau, SPSS, STATA, Excel, potentially other) to meet information need and to address on going and ad hoc report requirements, using agreed-upon standard definitions and methodologies.
Using a variety of statistical techniques such as multivariable methods for various equitable student related outcomes such as retention, graduation, and course performance.
Evaluates and uses current campus tools for data management, oversees the development of new tools as needed.
25%: Synthesize complex issues and present them in a creative and non-technical manner.
Provide ad hoc reporting and analytic support to grant staff, Hispanic-Serving Institution Director, and departments, Divisions and faculty working closely with the projects.
Produces grant program specific reports upon completion of grant activities and the schedule determine by the Department of Education schedule; provide data and information for grant and equity related requests, external surveys and for mandatory compliance reporting; assure validity and quality of data.
Produce written and oral reports with conclusions, implications and recommendation for practitioners, and campus stakeholders.
Design interactive infographics to enhance analysis, accessibility and presentation of grant, campus and equity data.
15%: Serves as a unit representative both internally and externally.
Work collaboratively and in consultation with other campus units, and peers across the UC -system to design and implement evaluation of procedures, programs and initiatives using appropriate research methods and statistical techniques. Serves on Campus Committees and workgroups as appropriate.
Professional development: pursues opportunities to enhance expertise in analyzing and presenting qualitative and quantitative data, higher education, educational equity and assessment to keep skills and knowledge current.
10%: May supervise professional staff and / or oversee the work of Graduate and undergraduate student researchers
10%: Other duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives Director.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Requires thorough knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of organization-specific computer application programs (for example, query tools and relational databases); knowledge of knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally, in writing, and electronically.
Advanced ability to present complex findings and recommendations in a clear concise manner verbally, digitally and in writing.
Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.
Able to provide good judgment and decision-making, problem solving.
Ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes. Excellent time management skills and experience in determining priorities effectively while adhering to deadlines on multiple or simultaneous projects.
Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated experience using statistical software such as SPSS, Stata, or SAS, including using command language or syntax to manage and transform data, report statistics, conduct multivariate regression analysis, and create tables.
