Summary of Duties:
The Principal Assistant provides comprehensive and complex administrative and professional support and maintains a high level of knowledge of University and office policies and procedures. Advise, assist, and represent the Director on a broad range of management, programmatic, and operational issues. Provides administrative support to the Assistant Vice President for Student Financial Services. This position requires the ability to interact with diverse groups and maintain confidentiality and a high level of discretion. Job duties include coordinating office operations; organizing, and managing the calendar for the Director and AVP; coordinating and handling all travel arrangements and reimbursements for the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships; coordinating schedule with committees and boards on which the Director/AVP serve and assist on reports and assignments from these groups, etc.
A Bachelor's degree in business administration or other relevant field and four (4) years of progressively responsible management work experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experience working in a higher education environment. Demonstrated skills in the operation of office machines and equipment, computer software, and use of spreadsheets and word processing. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills and the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential subjects in a non-confrontational manner. Demonstrated ability to promote diversity. Demonstrated knowledge of Washington State University operations, policies and procedures.
Proven ability to simultaneously prioritize, manage, and complete multiple projects. Demonstrated ability to maintain good working relationships with administrators, supervisors, and colleagues.
