This position will ensure a safety presence at designated campus and/or event. Officer will work at any of the campuses, to include Franklin, Hobbs, Smithfield, and other locations and events. Opens and closes facilities and select rooms for classes and events, and monitors those events ensuring utmost satisfaction of the students, clients and guests. Watches for and reports irregularities such as fire hazards, gas leak, unlocked doors, suspicious persons, and traffic in parking lots during special events. Prepares reports, which may include reports of injuries and violations of campus rules and regulations, safety regulations and notable activity. Other duties as assigned. This position reports to the Chief of the Department of Public Safety.
Strong oral and written communication skills and excellent customer service and relationship building skills required when communicating with clients, business partners, administrative staff, and faculty. Ability to react calmly and promptly during emergencies or disasters. Ability to interact with public officials and provide clear concise appraisals of emergency or disaster situations. Ability to work well in a team environment. Must have a valid Driver's License. CPR, AED and First Aid Certification or the ability to obtain the certifications within 90 days of employment. Certification as a Virginia DCJS Campus Safety Officer or a commitment to being certified within 60 Days. Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
