Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Supervising Medical Health Technician for the Department of Nursing at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
Under the administrative direction of the Nurse Director, the Supervising Medical Health Technician position supervises and manages the day-to-day operations of the Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks in the Adult and Pediatric Oncology Clinics. Ensures each clinic is well organized, fully prepared, and efficiently operated so that every patient and physician encounter occurs with a high level of safety and satisfaction. Functions as senior staff member, handling more complex issues and problems. This position is responsible for training, monitoring performance of Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks, coordinates and organizes tumor study meetings as required by regulatory bodies. Assists in the development of policies and procedures, quality improvement program and monitoring benchmark measures in order to improve the quality, consistency, and efficiency of services provided. May perform duties of the Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks. Position requires interaction with patients in all age categories from infants through geriatrics and all patient populations including individuals with cancer.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks. Directs, provides guidance and leadership to the Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks, allocating work assignments and monitoring accuracy and performance of completed work. Functions as a senior staff member, handling both routine and complex issues and problems. Adheres to budget constraints related to overtime.
Supervises all personnel in area of accountability in accordance with Cancer Institute of New Jersey guidelines. Recommends the hiring, firing, promoting, demotion, merit increases, transfers and/or disciplining of employees and other personnel changes. Assists in preparing and completing performance evaluations on time.
Assists in the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic goals for the clinic and Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks. Ensures that these goals are well communicated.
Develops and implements productivity standards for the Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks. Assists in establishing quality improvement program and engages staff in monitoring performance. Prepares reports that outline the results of these indicators for communication to the appropriate audiences.
Ensures and monitors that all Medical Health Technicians and Principal Clerks assigned to the clinic maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in Biology or Psychology, health related profession or equivalent.
Three (3) years of responsibility in a complex, healthcare environment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to work independently and to manage several projects concurrently.
Outstanding human relations and leadership skills and the ability to function in a team environment.
Effective oral and communication skills.
Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is necessary.
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and systems skills.
Have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations with patients, other employees, and managers in the organization.
