Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Per Diem Nurse Clinician (Navigator) for the Department of Nursing at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey.
The Nurse Clinician (Oncology Nurse Navigator) is a professional registered nurse with oncology-specific clinical knowledge who offers individualized assistance to patients, families, and caregivers to help overcome healthcare system barriers. Using the nursing process, provides education and resources to facilitate informed decision making and timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout all phases of the cancer continuum. The scope of the position is defined by the Nurse Practice Act of the State of New Jersey and adherence to the policies and Standard Operating Procedures set forth by Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Demonstrates competency in recognizing the unique needs of patients and applying relevant treatment approaches for neonate (birth-28 days), infant (29 days-less than one year), pediatric (1-12 years), adolescent (13-17 years), and adult (18-64 years).
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Demonstrates critical thinking to assess and meet the needs of patients by providing care coordination, throughout the cancer continuum.
Participates in multidisciplinary committees within Cancer Institute of New Jersey and RWJUH as they relate to improved patient services.
Demonstrates professionalism within both the workplace and community through respectful interactions and effective teamwork.
Disseminates knowledge of the nurse navigator role to other health care team members through peer education, mentoring, and preceptor experiences.
Obtains and develops oncology-related educational materials for patients, staff, and community members as appropriate.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related science.
Two (2) years of oncology focused experience in a hospital or ambulatory setting nursing experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
